Devorah's Beacon of Hope

The Birth of Circle of Kindness

In the quiet suburbs of Long Island, Devorah Reiter, a loving mother to nine children and beloved Chabad Rebbetzin, confronted one of life’s cruelest adversaries: Head and Neck Cancer. Her harrowing battle in 2018 saw her undergoing surgeries, facing the onslaught of chemo and radiation, only for the disease to rear its ugly head again. Yet, in the dimmest moments, when faced with a bleak prognosis, Devorah experienced the warmth and grace of her community.
While she battled the cancer that spread viciously to her lungs, skull, and other parts of her body, Devorah and her family, including a two-year-old toddler, found solace in an outpouring of love and generosity. From preparing meals, aiding with daily routines, to the gentle touch of massage therapists and entertainers for the kids—her community rose as an unwavering pillar of support. Touched by this overwhelming kindness, Devorah made a sacred promise: to give back to the world what it had given her in her darkest hours.
Against all odds, Devorah’s health began to show signs of improvement. While the battle left its mark, making eating and speaking challenging tasks, Devorah’s indomitable spirit remained unbroken. Armed with gratitude and determination, she gathered the community of volunteers who once helped her and channeled their efforts towards assisting others in their battles against illness.
And thus, the Circle of Kindness was born.
This nonprofit is not just an organization; it’s Devorah’s promise brought to life. Dedicated to enveloping families impacted by cancer or other serious illnesses in a nurturing cocoon of support—be it practical, emotional, or spiritual—Circle of Kindness is a testament to the transformative power of love and unity. Here, volunteers and patients walk hand-in-hand, proving that with community and compassion, one can overcome even the gravest of adversities.
In Devorah’s story, potential donors see a beacon of hope and the embodiment of resilience. Her journey and the birth of Circle of Kindness emphasize that kindness is a circle—it comes back around. By contributing, donors aren’t just giving funds; they’re becoming a part of a story that turns pain into purpose, and despair into hope.
